The Intercontinental Resort & Thelaso Spa opened in 2006 on Motu Piti on the western fringe of Bora Lagoon. Offering fantastic views over the turquoise lagoon towards Mount Otemanu, this resort is a fusion of Polynesian tradition and contemporary French living with a modern therapeutic spa and luxurious overwater bungalows.

All bungalows offer identical interior furnishings and are fully air-conditioned with spacious living. Features include king size bed, flat screen TV, internet connection, walk-in dressing rooms, spacious bathrooms with separate bath and shower, twin sinks and separate toilets. All bungalows have private sun deck with outdoor shower and steps into the lagoon. The difference between emerald, sapphire and diamond bungalows is in its outlook: Diamond bungalows take in unobstructed views of stunning Mt Otemanu and are located towards the end of the pontoon furthest from the main resort area. Sapphire bungalows overlook the lagoon towards Bora whilst Emerald bungalows face towards the main resort and beach area. The latter bungalows are the closest to the resort and are advisable for those not wishing to walk too far.

Snorkelling is OK although there is no coral and therefore few varieties of fish. The shallow sandy bottom lagoon is excellent for wind surfing, outrigger canoes and kayaks which are complimentary. There is excellent snorkelling at the Lagoonarium on the adjacent motu (fee applies) and scuba diving, motorised water sports (para sailing, game fishing, jet ski and water skiing), island picnics and trips to Vaitape can be arranged.
